New Fire Safety Rules

New fire safety rules affecting all non-domestic premises in England and Wales will come into force on 1st October 2006.
Are you ready? Or will you get your fingers burnt?

If you are any of the following then the reforms apply to you and you will need to act by 1st October 2006:

  • An employer
  • Self employed with business premises
  • Responsible for business premises
  • A charity or voluntary organisation
  • A contractor with a degree of control over any premises.

Under the new reforms you will have to ensure a “Competent Person” carries out a Fire Risk Assessment and keep records of the findings

Even if your premises have been designed and built in line with modern building regulations, and are being used in line with those regulations, you will still need to carry out a fire risk assessment.

Failure to comply with this legislation may invalidate your insurance, force the premises to be closed, or make you liable for a fine!

Please visit www.communities.gov.uk/fire so that you can access the Fire Risk Assessment criteria for your premises. You can also click here to download a free guidance document, or if you want to find out more about the actual act and sections click here.

Don't want to do it yourself! Call us now on 0845 200 2999 or click here to arrange your risk assessment before the 1st October deadline

Surrey's A23 Recreation Ground, Court Lodge Playing Fields and Michael Crescent are set to get CCTV cameras after the contract for the system was awarded by Horley Town Council.

The contract was awarded to ADK Security Services Ltd at recent meeting of the full council after a number of competitive bids were reviewed.

These systems will ensure that all three locations will be subject to video surveillance and the images capable of being used in a court of law as evidence.

A Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership spokesperson said:
CCTV has been proved to cut levels of crime in hotspots. By helping to install these cameras we hope to not only deter further crime and anti-social behaviour from being committed, but catch those that are committing the crimes and provide reassurance to residents.
